Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
This soothing, invigorating technique uses four basic strokes; effleurage, kneading, friction and percussion. This promotes blood flow towards the heart which improves circulation and relaxes the whole body. Oil or lotion is used in most sessions.
Deep Tissue Massage
After first warming the muscles, the massage therapist uses slow, deep, firm strokes to release tension from deep muscle groups and fascia. It can release muscle tension leaving you feeling taller, lighter and looser.
NMT is an advanced form of deep tissue massage that addresses areas of pain and disfunction by treating trigger points (hypersensitive points in muscle), adhesions, and fascia. A specific and well studied protocol is followed. The therapist will often assess posture and gait before and after a session.
A pregnant woman has special needs. Specific techniques can reduce physical discomfort and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and baby. Tailor-made cushions can be used so that the mother-to-be can lie on her belly comfortably through most of her pregnancy.
Hot Stone Massage
Varying sizes of smooth stones are heated to between 130 – 135° F. They are gently placed at key places on the body. The therapist massages with a warm stone in hand. Benefits include relief from muscle tension and stress reduction. It is a gentle modality and well suited for fibromyalgia and deep relaxation.
Thai Yoga Massage for Women
Thai Yoga Massage (Nuad Boran) is an ancient healing art combining passive yoga, acupressure, massage and compression. The result of a full-body Thai treatment is often an exciting and powerful mind and body healing experience. Clients are asked to be prepared by wearing loose-fitting clothing (yoga pants or sweatpants).
Chair massage can be done at our location or yours, with a special massage chair. These massages focus mostly on the neck, shoulders, arms and the back while you remain fully clothed.
This holistic healing practice is performed with the client fully clothed. Lightly placing hands on “listening stations”, the practitioner tunes into, follows, and encourages the client’s own craniosacral rhythm. It is known to calm the central nervous system and promote deep relaxation.
Heart Centered Therapy
The client is fully clothed in a session, laying on the massage table or sitting in a chair. The facilitator is next to them. Through gentle dialogue, the facilitator guides the client towards communication with their own heart. It can help to release old thought patterns and uncover insights, wisdom, and strength.
This gentle hands-on therapy supports the proper movement of lymph through the body. Our therapists have been trained in the method developed by Bruno Chickley MD, DO.
Traditional Chinese Medicine: Acupuncture & Chinese Herbs
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete health care system with a written history of 2,500 years. It can effectively treat acute and chronic conditions, including muscular, gastro-intestinal, gynecological and respiratory disorders. TCM can also be used in conjunction with modern Western medicine in order to enhance the effects of Western medical treatment or to alleviate the side effects of medications.
TCM includes the use of acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and moxibustion. Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points that have been determined to have beneficial effects. Chinese herbal medicines may be used internally or applied externally. Moxibustion is a form of “fire heat treatment” that stimulates specific acupuncture points of the body.
The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), established in 1982 as a non-profit organization currently operates under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. The mission of the NCCAOM is to establish, assess, and promote recognized standards of competence and safety in acupuncture and Oriental medicine for the protection and benefit of the public.
